Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was five, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she attended the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she realized she wanted to become an actress. She was trained for many years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. At the age of 10, she had appeared and played the lead in various Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was found by agents via her Oxford teacher. After eight consistent auditions director David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast to play the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film broke all records in terms of opening day and weekend numbers, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics were impressed with the performance of the film as well as its story.
